The Rottweiler
Fellow enthusiasts of canine companionship, are you intrigued by the majestic Rottweiler breed? Prepare for a delightful exploration into their remarkable attributes! Renowned for their blend of strength, affection, and playfulness, Rottweilers are truly exceptional creatures.
The Rottweiler has a long history and is considered one of the oldest surviving dog breeds, going as far back as Roman times where they were kept as herders or driving dogs. They protected their humans and drove cattle across the Alps.
They received their name from the German city of Rottweil and called ‘Butcher’s dog’ because they helped herd livestock and pull carts to market. Due to industrialization their use as drovers decreased but due to their strong work ethic and high level of intelligence, they have excelled at a variety of tasks including as one of the first seeing eye dogs, police dogs, and search and rescue. Whether safeguarding your abode or engaging in canine activities, their commitment and resolve leave an indelible impression. Beneath their muscular physique lies a gentle heart that matches their physical might.
In matters of family, Rottweilers excel as devoted companions, forming deep connections with their human counterparts. Their affectionate and loyal nature, combined with a composed demeanor, reflects their eagerness to protect and please their loved ones. Beyond their serious side, Rottweilers exhibit a playful demeanor that guarantees moments of joy. Be it chasing a ball, partaking in tug-of-war, or simply reveling in their amusing antics, these dogs are sure to bring laughter into your life.
If you seek a companion that embodies strength, affection, and a touch of whimsy, the Rottweiler stands as an ideal match for you. Embrace the opportunity to welcome this lovable fur-iend into your life!
Due to their size, strength and negative reputation it’s important to start training and socialization early. Daily exercise is required to keep your Rottweiler mentally and physically fit.
Research breeders carefully. Be sure they are testing the sires and dams for health-related issues regarding hips, eyes and heart. Research done by the Rottweiler Health Foundation has found that a careful vaccination regiment and strengthening their immune system is advised to minimize the risk of cancers.
Grooming is minimal, a weekly brushing and bathing as needed should be all that is needed. Shedding is moderate but increases twice per year, usually in the spring and fall. Regular nail trimming or grinding is required.
When looking to add a Rottweiler to your family it’s important to understand about the breed regarding health, grooming, exercise, etc. Do your research to find a responsible breeder.
