The Chihuahua
This tiny dog has a huge personality! They possess loyalty, charm and a big-dog personality! They may be small, but they still need training, or they will rule your house Napolean style!
Care must be taken around small children; Chihuahua’s can be injured easily. Cold weather is also a challenge. They can get cold easily and will prefer a warm lap in the winter.
Generally speaking, they are a healthy breed, but a responsible breeder is necessary to ensure the puppies are genetically sound. Chihuahuas can come in many different coat colors and patterns, both long hair and short hair. The longer haired Chihuahuas will need weekly brushing to remove any tangles or mats. Regular nail trims are recommended, and dental care is a must!
Chihuahuas need regular exercise to keep fit and trim. A small area for running and playing makes these dogs ideal apartment dwellers. When walking take it slow and watch for any signs of fatigue. If you see your dog struggling to keep up then it may be time to give them a lift and carry them home.
When looking to add a Chihuahua to your family it’s important to understand about the breed regarding health, grooming, exercise, etc. Do your research to find a responsible breeder.
