Canine CPR
When you have a human emergency there is the option of calling an ambulance or traveling a short distance to the many hospitals or urgent care centers available. When it comes to our dogs the options are more limited. There are no ambulances and although emergency veterinary care facilities exist in our area, they usually require travel time that your pet may not have in order to survive. Especially if the emergency occurs outside of regular business hours.
Learning how to perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) can buy your dog the time needed to get veterinary help.
The Red Cross offers online Pet First Aid training classes which includes pet CPR, checking vital signs, wounds, seizures, etc.
There are also a variety of free online videos available that can give you a basic understanding of what you can do in the event of an emergency.
